About the Competition

The PhotOlympic 24h Challenge is a remote photography competition held at the same time as the PhotOlympic live final.

Participants receive the same themes and create their photographs during the same 24-hour period as the live finalists, while photographing in their own city.

The remote competition has separate judging, rankings, and awards.

02

Eligibility

The competition is open to all photographers, including:

  • Photographers who qualified for the live event but cannot travel.
  • Photographers who participated in the qualification rounds but did not qualify.
  • Photographers who did not participate in the qualification rounds.

Previous participation or qualification is not required.

03

Registration and Entry Fee

The entry fee is €25 per participant and applies exclusively to the PhotOlympic 24h Challenge.

Participation in the qualification rounds does not automatically register a photographer for this competition. Qualified photographers who choose to participate remotely must also register and pay the remote competition entry fee.

Registration and payment must be completed by the published registration deadline.

04

Themes and Competition Period

The themes are the same as those assigned to the live finalists and are released at the start of the competition.

Participants have one continuous period of 24 hours to create and submit their photographs.

The official start time and submission deadline, including the applicable time zone, will be published on the competition website. These times apply to all participants, regardless of their location.

05

Photographing in Your City

Participants photograph in their own city rather than travelling to the host city of the live final.

All submitted photographs must be created during the official competition period and respond to the announced themes. Photographs taken before the competition begins are not eligible.

Each participant must personally create every photograph submitted under their name.

06

Online Submission

Each participant submits one photograph per theme.

Photographs must be submitted through the official online submission system before the published deadline.

Participants are responsible for uploading the correct files, assigning them to the appropriate themes, and checking that their submissions have been successfully received.

Only photographs successfully submitted before the deadline will be considered.

07

Verification

Participants must retain their original camera files and original capture metadata.

The organisers may request these files to verify authorship, capture time, and compliance with the rules. Requested files must be supplied within the deadline stated in the verification request.

Failure to provide sufficient verification may result in the affected photographs being excluded.

08

Judging and Rankings

Entries are judged separately from those submitted by the live finalists.

The remote competition has its own rankings. Its results do not affect qualification results, live finalist rankings, or titles awarded in the live final.

The judging criteria and scoring method will be published before the competition begins.

The jury's artistic decisions are final.

09

Awards

Awards are presented exclusively within the PhotOlympic 24h Challenge.

The complete award list will be published on the competition website. Remote participants compete only for the awards announced for this competition.

10

Copyright and Use of Photographs

Participants retain copyright to their photographs.

By entering, participants grant the organisers a non-exclusive right to reproduce and display submitted photographs for competition judging, results announcements, exhibitions, catalogues, and promotion of PhotOlympic, with photographer credit wherever reasonably possible.

This permission does not transfer copyright or authorise the sale of submitted photographs.

Participants are responsible for obtaining any permissions required to create and submit their photographs.

11

Compliance with the Rules

Entries may be excluded if they do not comply with the announced themes, competition period, submission requirements, authorship requirements, or other competition rules.

False information, submission of another person's work, or manipulation of capture metadata may result in disqualification.

12

Relationship to the Live Final

The PhotOlympic 24h Challenge shares the themes and competition period of the live final but remains a separate competition.

Registration and payment do not grant a place in the live final, live finalist status, or eligibility for awards reserved for participants competing in person.

13

Acceptance of the Rules

By registering, participants accept these rules and the published submission requirements.

Questions about participation or the application of these rules should be sent to the organisers through the contact details provided on the competition website.
